Book Chat provides a friendly space for book lovers to share their views and chat about their latest book. We discover new authors to add to our reading list and gain different perspectives on a variety of topics. The group also selects specific genres or themes to focus on throughout the term. Do join us.

Bridge players can come along and play a game and get assistance from each other. Newcomers with Bridge-playing experience are welcome.

The walks are normally between 3 to 5 hours, covering 7 to 15 kms in distance and range from easy flat walks on well-defined paths to extremely difficult with rock hopping / bush bashing on steep slopes.  As some walks are in wilderness areas, participants require a good level of fitness and need to be adequately prepared with regard to equipment, clothing and sustenance.  The meeting place for all walks is the Community Centre car park in Redwood Road. Circle Dancing continues with a programme of traditional and contemporary dances from around the world. Newcomers are welcome and the dances will be retaught. Bring comfortable footwear.

This course is for anyone who loves to write! Whether you are an experienced writer or a beginner, we would love you to join us! You will find the group fun, reassuring and helpful. The emphasis is on imagination and creativity and to that end group members will be encouraged to participate in a 10-minute informal writing exercise and to complete optional homework for reading out, at the next class.

Helen Lindsay, member of the Victorian and Tasmanian Floral Art Association and multi award winner in floral designs in Tasmania and on the mainland, will run you through the various styles and different periods of Flower Arranging. Helen also owned and managed a florist shop for 10 years before owning and managing a function centre where she catered for many weddings and other functions. another 10 years. Helen now wants to share her love of flowers with you.

Members of this lively group discuss a wide range of topics, ranging from politics, world events, science, humanities, and religion. Our rules maintain respect for others' opinions. Challenging discussion is encouraged. Each participant has an opportunity to speak without interruption and may express any discomfort about others' opinions. Confidentiality within the group assures members that their opinion stays in the room, thus allowing them to speak freely on the issues involved.

President Putin claims that Ukraine is part of Russia but the borders of Russia have varied widely over the last thousand years or more. This course explores this history and what constitutes Russia up to the present.

Our large neighbour, Indonesia, also has a long and chequered history but very different from Russia. This course looks at this history leading up to the proclamation of modern Indonesia in 1945 and problems with its borders.     

Are you an experienced jigsaw puzzler or an interested beginner? Come along and work together with other puzzlers to complete new-to-us puzzles of 500 pieces and less in 90 minutes. A range of lovely jigsaws is available in different piece sizes. Who knows, maybe we could manage 1000 piece jigsaws with teamwork!

Here is your chance to play or learn how to play the ancient Chinese game of Mah Jong.  It is now popular around the world. Any newcomers are very welcome.  If you have a Mah Jong set, do bring it.  If you don't have your own set, there are sets available for class use.

Reading and exploration of the world's greatest dramas.

When you think poetry, which poets come to mind? Perhaps W.H. Auden, Pam Ayers, William Blake. T.S. Elliot, Ogden Nash, Pablo Neruda, Banjo Paterson, Shakespeare or any other of thousands of poets over the centuries. You may write poetry yourself. The poetry group is for those who enjoy poetry in its many and varied forms, from the serious to the comic. Each week we share poems on a pre-set topic. (Week 1, Nature)

Pleasant 1.5-to-2-hour walks, enjoying nature and fresh air on local and rural tracks and trails for an invigorating, healthy social activity. We meet at the U3A carpark where the car-pooling is organised, at 9:45 am ready to leave by 10 am. After the walk, we go to a cafe or pub (mostly pubs because of the numbers) for lunch. Limited new members are welcome.

This group meets at the Senior Citizens' carpark to depart at 10am. Walks are 1.5 to 2.5 hours on made tracks, and usually followed by an optional social meal in a nearby eatery. 

For those who would like to use their earlier experiences of French to learn to speak more fluently.  We concentrate on using conversational French on a variety of topics including everyday situations and travel.

Do you love singing, in the shower, in the car, sing along to the radio? Come along and have a healthy sing, a laugh, and breath.  No pressure or need to read music.
We will provide the piano, guitar accompaniment and words.  If you want to bring an instrument, Kazoo, uke, cassinettes, please feel free to join in.

Every year we make a variety of items for Ronald McDonald House. The items include knitted beanies, scarves, and baby jackets suitable for premature babies. This group is very friendly, and we help each other. I like to introduce the group to different craft ideas as well as the true and tried ones.

Everyone has a story to tell, no matter how ordinary. Make a collection of your remembered stories to pass on. Or a collection of stories gathered from friends and family for a special birthday, wedding, or retirement. This is your story so there will only be comments for clarification - not literary criticism! We will each gather stories, photos, and family histories, sharing a few snippets with the group each week if you wish, with the aim to each publish a book at the end of the year (or at an appropriate time before then).Along the way we are bound to stray into genealogy! Different forms of publishing will be explored from the cheapest possible to the fully printed and bound books. 

The walks are for about 1.5 hours and on urban footpaths, wide "made" tracks or single-file bush tracks. Occasionally they can be rough underfoot and a little hilly. In the greater Kingston area, hills are hard to avoid, so we enjoy them slowly. We meet at the start of the walks at 10.30 am and walks last for up to 1.5 hours.

Slow, gentle exercise, breathing and stretching to lower blood pressure, reduce stress and maintain flexibility. Wear loose, comfortable clothes.

We enjoy Welsh music together, translating current articles, conversing with each other, and we are currently working from the textbook "UWCH 1 Dysgu Cymraeg, Gogledd Cymru".

This is an opportunity to gain experience with one of the oldest languages which has been spoken in Wales for about 1600 years.  Our emphasis is on everyday situations, e.g. greetings, shopping, family, weather, at the cafe, likes and dislikes, sport and travel. We also cover some of the history of Wales. This will give your brain a good workout when you learn pronunciation, sentence pattern and vocabulary. It is fun too.

This is a continuation course after completing the beginner's course.  It will cover all the tenses and emphasis will be on grammar, conversation, reading articles and simple books.

From microbes that shaped our world, to Tasmanian insects; smart, sexy echidnas to pregnant bettongs, our life scientists will tell us about their research on land and sea. What molluscs live on the ocean floor, what is happening to flathead and how does the age of denialism affect creatures in marine parks? And how do we know that what our scientists are doing is science? There is so much to discover in this fascinating life science series.
